6-Week-Old Puppy Development: Growing in Confidence

The puppies are now six weeks old and are becoming more playful, curious, and interactive each day. It’s an exciting stage of development, full of new experiences and rapid growth.

Here’s what’s happening at this stage:

  • 🐾 Increased Confidence: Puppies are starting to explore more freely and are less reliant on mum for reassurance.

  • 🧠 Social Skills Developing: Play becomes more purposeful, they’re learning boundaries, bite inhibition, and basic communication from their littermates.

  • 💬 More Human Interaction: They’re engaging more with people, showing curiosity and reacting to voices and movement.

  • 🥣 Weaning Progress: Solid food is now their main source of nutrition, though Bo is still providing some comfort and guidance.

  • 🐕 Personalities Emerging: Individual temperaments are beginning to show — some are bold and outgoing, others more gentle and observant.

  • 🎵 Environmental Exposure: They’re being gently introduced to different sounds, textures, and surfaces to support confident, well-rounded development.

  • 💤 Rest Still Essential: Despite their bursts of energy, they still need plenty of sleep to support their rapid growth.

Bo continues to do an excellent job as a mum, keeping an eye on her pups while giving them the space to start becoming a little more independent.
