Week Two
Two weeks in and things are moving fast! Bo is doing a brilliant job and all six puppies are growing and changing every single day.
This last week has brought an extra challenge, the heatwave. At this age puppies cannot regulate their own body temperature, which means keeping the whelping area within the correct range has been really tricky in the soaring heat. I have been monitoring the temperature very closely around the clock to make sure everyone stayed safe and comfortable. I am very relieved to say all six puppies came through the heat beautifully, but it has been a challenging week behind the scenes!
Here is a little snapshot of where we are this week…
• Eyes are beginning to open for the very first time, one of my favourite milestones to watch for
• Ear canals are still sealed but won't be for much longer, hearing is just around the corner
• All six puppies are gaining weight well and feeding strongly, Bo is keeping up with six hungry mouths beautifully
• Nails are trimmed every week to keep the puppies comfortable and protect Bo during feeding
• The puppies have been wormed for the first time today, an important part of keeping them healthy from the very start
• Movement is becoming much more purposeful, those little back legs are starting to kick into action
• That stunning deep red coat is looking more gorgeous by the day
• Already spotting differences in size between the puppies, every one of them is unique
• Bo remains completely devoted and utterly magnificent, she barely leaves their side
